*Lord Crickhowell to ask Her Majesty’s Government what percentage of the total capital value of new hospital building projects, with a value of £29.7 million or above, built since 1997 relates to hospitals situated in Parliamentary constituencies which currently have a sitting Labour Member of Parliament.

*Lord Teverson to ask Her Majesty’s Government when, following decisions taken at the March European Council on climate change, they expect the last incandescent light bulb to be switched off in the United Kingdom.

*Lord Eden of Winton to ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will review the decision to exclude some 22,000 Gurkha veterans who left service before 1997 from the new pension arrangements available to Gurkha veterans who retired after July 1997.

Public Business

1   Approved Premises A question was asked by the Lord Bishop of Ripon and Leeds and answered by Lord Falconer of Thoroton.

2   Waste management: fly-tipping A question was asked by Baroness Trumpington and answered by Lord Rooker.

3   Afghanistan: national army and police A question was asked by Lord Astor of Hever and answered by Lord Drayson.

4   Prisons: anti-corruption squads A question was asked by Lord Ramsbotham and answered by Lord Falconer of Thoroton.

5   UK Borders Bill A bill to make provision about immigration and asylum; and for connected purposes was brought from the Commons. It was read a first time and ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 68)

6   UK Borders Bill The Explanatory Notes on the bill were ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 68-EN)

7   Business of the House The Lord President (Baroness Amos) moved that the debate on the motion in the name of Baroness Howells of St Davids set down for today shall be limited to 3½ hours and that in the name of Baroness Pitkeathley to 2 hours. The motion was agreed to.

8   Human Tissue and Embryos Bill (Draft) The Chairman of Committees moved, further to the motion agreed to on 8 May, that evidence taken by the Committee shall, if the Committee thinks fit, be published; and that the Committee do meet with the Committee appointed by the Commons on Tuesday 15 May at 2.00pm. The motion was agreed to and a message was sent to the Commons.

9   Slave trade: abolition (3½-hour debate) Baroness Howells of St Davids moved for papers relating to the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade and to the United Kingdom’s role in tackling its legacies. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

10   Social care (2-hour debate) Baroness Pitkeathley moved for papers relating to developments in social care provision. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

11   Vehicle Registration Marks Bill Earl Attlee moved that the bill be now read a second time. After debate, the motion was agreed to and the bill was committed to a Committee of the Whole House.

12   Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Bill [HL] The bill was reported from the Grand Committee with amendments. It was ordered that the bill be printed as amended. (HL Bill 70)
