The following Report from the Select Committee was made and ordered to be printed:

Public Business

2   Crime: rape A question was asked by Lord Campbell-Savours and answered by Lord Goldsmith.

3   Pakistan: treatment of women A question was asked by Baroness Whitaker and answered by Baroness Royall of Blaisdon.

4   Mental health: funding A question was asked by Baroness Murphy and answered by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath.

5   Health: mixed-sex NHS wards A question was asked by Lord Naseby and answered by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath.

6   Business of the House The Lord President (Baroness Amos) moved that Standing Order 41 (Arrangement of the Order Paper) be dispensed with tomorrow so that the debate on House of Lords Reform may continue before Oral Questions. The motion was agreed to.

7   House of Lords Reform Lord Falconer of Thoroton moved that this House takes note of the White Paper The House of Lords: Reform (Cm. 7027). After debate, the debate was adjourned until tomorrow.

8   European Council: 8-9 March 2007 The Lord President (Baroness Amos) repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

The House adjourned at 10.55pm until Tuesday 13 March at 12 noon.

(Consolidated Appeals)

Further to the Order of the House of Wednesday 15 February (36th Report Session 2005-06; [2006] UKHL 5), it was ordered that, in respect of each of the appeals, the respondent do pay or cause to be paid to the appellant one half of his costs in Her Majesty’s Court of Appeal and one half of his costs in this House, the amount of the costs in this House to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties and the amount of the costs in Her Majesty’s Court of Appeal to be determined by a Costs Judge if not agreed between the parties; and that the costs of each of the appellants in this House be taxed in accordance with the Access to Justice Act 1999.

4   R (on the application of M) (Respondent) v Slough Borough Council (Respondents) and another (Appellant) (England) The appeal of the Secretary of State for the Home Department was presented and it was ordered that in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or before 23 April.

5   HRH the Prince of Wales (Respondent) v Associated Newspapers (Petitioners) The petition of Associated Newspapers praying for leave to appeal notwithstanding that the time limited by Standing Order II has expired was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.

6   R v Heard (Petitioner) The petition of Lee Paul Heard praying for leave to appeal in accordance with the Criminal Appeal Act 1968 was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.

7   R (on the application of Edwards and another (Appellant)) v Environment Agency and others (Respondents) The petition of the appellant praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 20 April (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
