Public Business
6. BBC Charter—It was moved by the Lord Davies of Oldham, that this House takes note of the drafts of the BBC’s new Charter and the Agreement between the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and the Corporation; after debate, the motion was agreed to.
7. BBC Charter: 3rd Report of the Select Committee—It was moved by the Lord Fowler that this House takes note of the 3rd Report of the Select Committee on the Review of the BBC’s Royal Charter (3rd Report, HL Paper 196); the motion was agreed to.
8. International Development (Reporting and Transparency) Bill—A bill to require the Secretary of State to report annually on total expenditure on international aid and on the breakdown of such aid, and in particular on progress towards the target for expenditure on official development assistance to constitute 0.7 per cent of gross national income; to require such reports to contain information about expenditure by country, about the proportion of expenditure in low income countries and about the effectiveness of aid expenditure and the transparency of international aid; and for connected purposes was brought from the Commons, read a first time and ordered to be printed. 9. Piped Music and Showing of Television Programmes Bill [HL]—It was moved by the Lord Beaumont of Whitley that the bill be now read a second time; after debate, the motion was agreed to.
