The House met at half-past two oclock.
PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Norwich.
1. Lord BurnettJohn Patrick Aubone Burnett, Esquire, having been created Baron Burnett, of Whitchurch in the County of Devon, for life by Letters Patent dated in the afternoon of 31st May 2006, was introduced between the Lord Dholakia and the Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute.
2. Lord TrimbleThe Right Honourable William David Trimble, having been created Baron Trimble, of Lisnagarvey in the County of Antrim, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 2nd June 2006, was introduced between the Lord Rogan and the Lord Steinberg, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute.

3. Carter (sued on his own on behalf of the other members of the Labour Party) (Respondent) v. Ahsan (Appellant)The petition of the appellant praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 3rd July (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed (lodged 5th June).

9. London Local Authorities Bill [HL]The Chairman of Committees acquainted the House that, in accordance with Private Business Standing Order 121, he had selected the following Deputy Chairmen to join him on the Unopposed Bill Committee on the bill:
Public Business10. Government of Wales BillThe House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; an amendment was disagreed to (see division list); amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; the House was resumed.
11. Nuclear proliferationThe Baroness Williams of Crosby asked Her Majestys Government what steps they have taken to counter the dangers of nuclear proliferation; after debate, the question was answered by the Baroness Royall of Blaisdon.
12. Government of Wales BillThe House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the House was resumed and the bill was reported with amendments; it was ordered that the bill be printed as amended.
