The House met at half-past two o’clock.

PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Exeter.

Judicial Business

1.  R v. Robinson (Petitioner)—The petition of Dennis Robinson praying for leave to appeal in accordance with the Criminal Appeal Act 1968 was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.

2.  R (on the application of Clift) (FC) (Appellant) v. Secretary of State for the Home Department (Respondent)—

    (Conjoined Appeals)—

    The appeals were set down for hearing and referred to an Appellate Committee.

7.  Mohammed (FC) (Appellant) v. Secretary of State for the Home Department (Respondent)—

    The petition of the appellants praying that the appeals be consolidated; that they be allowed to lodge one statement, one case and one appendix and be jointly represented by leading counsel and that the respondent be allowed to lodge one case in respect of the three appeals (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

8.  Bradford & Bingley plc (Appellants) v. Rashid (Respondent)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 22nd February (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

9.  Farley (Respondent) v. Child Support Agency and another (Appellants)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 23rd February (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

10.  London Borough of Tower Hamlets (Appellants) v. Begum (FC) (Respondent)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 22nd February (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

11.  Seismic Shipping Inc and others (Respondents) v. Total E & P UK plc (Appellants)—It was ordered that the appellants be allowed to prosecute the appeal without giving the usual security for costs as required by Standing Order.

Paper

12.  Paper not subject to parliamentary proceedings—The following paper was laid before the House and ordered to lie on the Table:

    Naval and Marine Pay and Pensions (Pay and Allowance) (Number 4) Order 2005, laid under the Naval and Marine Pay and Pensions Act 1865.

Public Business

13.  Powers of Entry etc. Bill [HL]—A bill to regulate powers of entry and powers in relation to documents; and for connected purposes was presented by the Lord Selsdon, read a first time and ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 57)

14.  Road Safety Bill [HL]—The Queen’s and Prince of Wales’ consents were signified; the bill was read a third time; amendments were moved and (by leave of the House) withdrawn; amendments were disagreed to (see division lists 1, 3 and 4); an amendment was agreed to (see division list 2); a privilege amendment was agreed to; then the bill was passed and sent to the Commons.

15.  Transport (Wales) Bill—The report was received; amendments were moved and (by leave of the House) withdrawn.

16.  European Union (Accessions) Bill—The House resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; an amendment was moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; the House was resumed and the bill was reported without amendment.

The House was adjourned at eighteen minutes past nine o’clock

till tomorrow, half-past two o’clock.
