PARLIAMENT—Met at half-past two o’clock pursuant to a proclamation dated 11th April last; the Lords Commissioners being seated, the Lord Chancellor in the middle with the Lord President (Baroness Amos) and the Lord Donaldson of Lymington to his right hand and the Lord Strathclyde and the Lord Roper on his left, the Commission for opening Parliament dated the 11th instant was read; the Commons, being present at the Bar, were directed to proceed to the choice of a Speaker and to present the person chosen for the Royal Approbation; and the Lords of Appeal were commanded to hear and determine appeals depending before Her Majesty in Her Court of Parliament at such times and in such manner as they shall see fit.
PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Oxford.
