Judicial Business
1. College of Estate Management (Respondents) v. Her Majesty’s Commissioners of Customs and Excise (Appellants) (England)—The appeal of Her Majesty’s Commissioners of Customs and Excise was presented and it was ordered that in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or before 19th January 2005.
2. West Bromwich Building Society (Appellants) v. Wilkinson and another (Respondents) (England)—The appeal of West Bromwich Building Society was presented and it was ordered that in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or before 19th January 2005.
3. Blackburn Chemicals Limited (Petitioners) v. Bim Kemi AB (Respondents)—The petition of Blackburn Chemicals Limited praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.
4. R (on the application of Hammond) (Respondent) v. Secretary of State for the Home Department (Petitioner)—The petition of the Secretary of State for the Home Department praying for leave to appeal in accordance with the Administration of Justice Act 1960 was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.
5. In re McClean (Original Respondent and Cross-appellant) (On Appeal from the Court of Appeal Northern Ireland) (Northern Ireland)—The petition of the original appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 19th January 2005 (the agents for the original respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
6. Appeal Committee—The following Order was made pursuant to the 113th Report, Session 2003-04:
Trustees of the Robin Settlement (Petitioners) v. Trippier (Her Majesty’s Inspector of Taxes) (Respondent)—That leave to appeal be refused; that the respondent be at liberty to apply for her costs in accordance with direction 5.1(d); and, if the application is granted, that the amount thereof be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties.

Public Business
13. Succession to the Crown Bill [HL]—A bill to make provision about succession to the Crown and about Royal marriages was presented by the Lord Dubs, read a first time and ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 11)
14. Business of the House—It was moved by the Lord Grocott, on behalf of the Lord President (Baroness Amos), that the debate on the motion in the name of the Baroness Linklater of Butterstone set down for today shall be limited to 4 hours; the motion was agreed to.
15. Crime prevention (4-hour debate)—It was moved by the Baroness Linklater of Butterstone that there be laid before the House papers relating to the case for wider community involvement in determining policies relevant to crime prevention, alternatives to prison and the rehabilitation of offenders, in the interests of public confidence in the criminal justice system; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn.
1. 16. Vaccination programme—The Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts asked Her Majesty’s Government what they propose to do to increase the level of public trust in their vaccination and immunisation programme; after debate, the question was answered by the Lord Warner.
