Judicial Business
1. Cream Holdings Limited and others (Respondents) v. Banerjee and others (Appellants) (England)—The appeal of Chumki Banerjee and the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo Limited was presented and it was ordered that in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or before 15th July next.
2. Regina v. Jones (Petitioner)—The petition of Michael Derek Jones praying for leave to appeal in accordance with the Criminal Appeal Act 1968 was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.
3. Mulkerrins (formerly Woodward) (FC) (Appellant) v. Pricewaterhouse Coopers (a firm) (formerly trading as Coopers & Lybrand (a firm)) (Respondents)—The petition of the Official Receiver praying for leave to intervene in the said appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.

4. Command Paper—The following paper was presented to the House by command of Her Majesty and ordered to lie on the Table:
Immigration—Treaty between the United Kingdom and France concerning the implementation of Frontier Controls at the Sea Ports of both Countries on the Channel and North Sea, together with an Explanatory Memorandum. (5832)
5. Negative Instruments—The following instruments were laid before the House and ordered to lie on the Table:
1. European Parliament (United Kingdom Representatives) Pensions (Amendment) Order 2003, laid under the European Parliament (Pay and Pensions) Act 1979; (1416)
2. Crown Court (Amendment No. 2) Rules (Northern Ireland) 2003, laid under the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978. (—)
6. Papers not subject to parliamentary proceedings—The following papers were laid before the House and ordered to lie on the Table:
1. Report for 2002-03 of the Office of the Rail Regulator, laid under the Railways Act 1993;
2. Accounts for 2001-02 of the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work, together with the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, laid under the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983.
Select Committee Report
7. Statutory Instruments—The minutes of evidence taken before the Joint Committee on 3rd June on the draft Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 and the draft Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003 were ordered to be printed. (HL Paper 113)

8. Communications Bill—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; an amendment was agreed to; the House was resumed.
9. Europol (EUC Report)—The Baroness Harris of Richmond asked Her Majesty’s Government, in the light of the Report of the European Union Committee on Europol’s Role in Fighting Crime (5th Report, HL Paper 43), what steps they are taking within the European Union to ensure that the Europol Convention is amended to ensure that Europol has the tools to operate effectively and is properly accountable, particularly to national parliaments; after debate, the question was answered by the Lord Bassam of Brighton.
The House was adjourned during pleasure.

10. Communications Bill—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the House was resumed after clause 339 stood part.
