Her Majesty The Queen's Golden Jubilee
71. On 30 April 2002, the House met
at 10.00 am and proceeded to Westminster Hall where the Lord Chancellor
presented an Humble Address to congratulate Her Majesty The Queen
on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Her Accession to the
Throne. The Queen subsequently made a tour of the Palace of Westminster
and attended a reception for Members and staff in the Royal Gallery.
Her Majesty the Queen addressing both Houses of
Parliament by John Barrow (acquired by the Works of Art Committee).
72. The two Houses jointly commissioned a sundial to commemorate
the Golden Jubilee. Designed by Quentin Newark, it was placed
in Old Palace Yard, and its completion in October 2002 was marked
by a reception at which The Queen was represented by the Earl
and Countess of Wessex.
