MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

The House met at half-past two o’clock.

    PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Portsmouth.

1.  Speaker of the House of Commons—The Lords Commissioners being seated, the Lord Chancellor in the middle with the Lord Privy Seal (Lord Williams of Mostyn) and the Lord Moore of Wolvercote on his right hand and the Lord Strathclyde and the Baroness Williams of Crosby on his left, and the Commons, being present at the Bar with their Speaker-Elect, the Right Honourable Mr Michael Martin, the said Speaker-Elect was presented and approved by the Lords Commissioners (by command of Her Majesty).

2.  Oaths and affirmations—The Lords following took and subscribed the oath, or made and subscribed the solemn affirmation, pursuant to statute:
