Judicial Business
1. Bank of Credit and Commerce International SA (in compulsory liquidation) (Appellants) v. Ali and another (Respondent)It was moved by the Lord Bingham of Cornhill, That the 16th Report from the Appellate Committee be agreed to; the motion was agreed to. It was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal of 19th April 2000 be affirmed and the appeal dismissed with costs, the amount thereof to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties, subject to any costs-sharing order which may be or become applicable. 2. White (AP) (Appellant) v. White and the Motor Insurers Bureau (Respondents)It was moved by the Lord Nicholls of Birkenhead, That the 17th Report from the Appellate Committee be agreed to; the motion was agreed to. It was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal of 30th September 1998 be set aside, save as to legal aid taxation; that it be ordered that the second respondents are liable to satisfy the appellants claim for damages against the first respondent; and that the second respondents do pay to the appellant his costs in the Court of Appeal and before this House, the amount of such last-mentioned costs to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties; and that the costs of the appellant in this House be taxed in accordance with the Legal Aid Act 1988. House of Commons (Removal of Clergy Disqualification) BillA bill to remove any disqualification from membership of the House of Commons that arises by reason of a person having been ordained or being a minister of a religious denomination and to continue the disqualification of Lords Spiritual from such membership was brought from the Commons, read a first time and ordered to be printed. 12. House of Commons (Removal of Clergy Disqualification) BillIt was ordered that the Explanatory Notes relating to the bill be printed. (HL Bill 33-EN)
13. Private Security Industry Bill [HL]The report was received; an amendment was moved and (by leave of the House) withdrawn; an amendment was disagreed to (see division list 3); further consideration on report was adjourned after amendment 3.
