The Government have announced that they shall not be proceeding with this Bill and that they shall introduce a No.2 Bill in the House of Commons this session.
Explanatory Notes to the Bill, prepared by the Home Office, are published separately as HL Bill 3- EN.
The Lord Bassam of Brighton has made the following statement under section 19(1)(a) of the Human Rights Act 1998: In my view the provisions of the Criminal Justice (Mode of Trial) Bill [H.L.] are compatible with the Convention rights. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
