the Chairman of Committees that the Viscount Cranborne be appointed
a member of the Select Committee in the place of the Viscount
Whitelaw; the motion was agreed to.

House of Lords BillIt was moved by the
Lord Mayhew of Twysden that the question whether the House of
Lords Bill (as amended on Report) would, if enacted, affect the
right of those hereditary peers who have answered to their Writ
of Summons before the bill receives Royal Assent to continue to
sit and vote throughout the Parliament in which the bill is enacted
be referred to the Committee for Privileges; after debate, the
motion was agreed to (see division list 1 [not printed]).

Committee for PrivilegesIt was moved by
the Chairman of Committees, That, for the purpose of hearing the
references on the effect of the House of Lords Bill, the senior
Lord of Appeal present be appointed Chairman of the Committee
for Privileges; and that the Committee have leave to hear parties
interested, by themselves, their counsel, agents, and witnesses
so far as the Committee think fit; the motion was agreed to.
