Lord Marlesford asked Her Majesty's Government:
Lord Whitty: Braintree District Council has informed the Highways Agency of its decision to retain the advertisement boards and has requested a meeting to discuss appropriate management of the existing landscape screening.
Lord Kennet asked Her Majesty's Government:
Lord Whitty: We are arranging for a copy of the review of the A.303 Stonenhenge scheme, including the 2 km tunnel proposed by English Heritage, carried out for the Roads Review in June 1998 to be placed in the Library. This review included preliminary versions of the New Approach to Appraisal frameworks to present quantifiable and non-quantifiable issues. The method of appraisal is set out in A New Deal for Trunk Roads in England: Understanding the New Approach to Appraisal.
The review provides a record of the position at that time but it should be recognised that there has been subsequent public consultation prior to the announcement of the preferred route on 25 June 1999.
Baroness Blatch asked Her Majesty's Government:
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Baroness Hollis of Heigham): This Department has employed 41 young people under the New Deal arrangements since April 1998.
Lord Rix asked Her Majesty's Government:
Baroness Hollis of Heigham: No data exist at present on which to base an estimate of the impact of the ONE service and compulsory work-focused interviews on future take-up of Invalid Care Allowance. We plan to pilot the ONE service in 12 areas from next April until 2002 and will conduct a full evaluation. In-depth interviews with carers as part of that evaluation may shed some light on the impact of compulsory work-focused interviews for those claiming Invalid Care Allowance. Initial results from these interviews will be
available in winter 2000-01, with further findings in summer 2001.
Lord Rix asked Her Majesty's Government:
Baroness Hollis of Heigham: The information is in the table.
