| Crown application. |
77. This Act binds the Crown. |
| Commencement. |
78. - (1) Subject to subsection (2), the preceding provisions of this Act shall come into force on such day as the Lord Chancellor may by order made by statutory instrument appoint; and different days may be appointed for different purposes. |

(2) The following provisions shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which this Act is passed- |

(c) in Part V, sections 49 to 52, 55, 56, 58 and 59 and Schedules 7 and 8, |
| |
(d) in Part VI, section 74, and |
| |
(e) in Schedule 11, Part III and Part IV (1), (2) and (4). |
| Extent. |
79. - (1) Part II extends to Scotland. |
| |
(2) Sections 68(2) and (3) and 74(2) extend to Northern Ireland. |
| |
(3) Sections 71, 72 and 73 and (subject to subsection (4)) this Part extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. |

(4) The provisions of this Act which make amendments or repeals in other enactments have the same extent as the enactments which they amend or repeal. |
| |
(5) Subject to that, this Act extends to England and Wales. |
| |
(6) For the purposes of the Scotland Act 1998 this Act, so far as it extends to Scotland, shall be taken to be a pre-commencement enactment within the meaning of that Act. |
| Short title. |
80. This Act may be cited as the Access to Justice Act 1999. |
