Lord Berkeley asked Her Majesty's Government:
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Viscount Goschen): I have nothing to add to my reply of 11th June. It is not the Government's practice to publish such correspondence.
Lord Tebbit asked Her Majesty's Government:
Lord Lucas: The European Commission's current CAP budget proposals contain provisions of £191 million in 1996 and £259 million in 1997 for measures so far agreed to deal with BSE excluding other beef market support measures. The United Kingdom is forecast to contribute about 15 per cent. to the EU budget in 1996 and 14 per cent. in 1997 before our Fountainebleau abatement
is taken into account. About £157 million of the 1996 amount and all of the 1997 amount is expected to be spent in the United Kingdom.
Lord Willoughby de Broke asked Her Majesty's Government:
Lord Lucas: The composition, labelling and marketing of animal feed in Great Britain is governed by the Feeding Stuffs Regulations 1995. These regulations are enforced by local authorities. Responsibility for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the prohibitions on mammalian protein in animal feed lies with the State Veterinary Service and local authorities jointly.
