The following is a list of the select committees which are set up to examine the work of Government Departments, and which now constitute the main investigatory system by which the House oversees the exercise of Government responsibilities and the development of public policy and expenditure.

Regional Affairs Grand Committee

On 12 November 2008, the House of Commons suspended Standing Order 117 until the end of the current Parliament. Under Standing Order 117 there is a Regional Affairs Committee which may consider any matter relating to regional affairs in England which may be referred to it by the House.

Regional Grand Committees

From 1st January 2009, the House of Commons established a system of regional grand committees to consider matters relating to the English regions. Under Standing Order No 117A there are eight regional grand committees, one for the following regions: East Midlands; East of England; North East; North West; South East; South West; West Midlands; Yorkshire and the Humber. The membership of each regional grand committee comprises all Members who represent constituencies in the region.
