Memorandum from Sir Christopher Kelly
KCB
I was pleased to give evidence to the Committee
on 10 February.
One of the items covered during that session
was my Committee's efforts in continuing to press for the introduction
of individual voter registrationwhich up to that point
had not borne fruit. You will know that the Government have now
announced plans to introduce individual registration as well as
other measures to improve the comprehensiveness of the electoral
register. I have concerns about the timetable proposed. But I
am sure that you will agree with me that this is nevertheless
an important step in restoring public confidence in the integrity
of our electoral registration system.
