9    Local Transport Bill [Lords],—Ann Winterton reported from the Local Transport Bill [Lords] Committee:

    (1) certain Memoranda; and

    (2) That it had gone through the Bill and made Amendments thereunto; and had amended the Title, as follows: A Bill to make further provision in relation to local transport authorities, the provision and regulation of road transport services and the subsidising of passenger transport services; to amend sections 74, 75 and 79 of the Transport Act 1985; to make provision for or in relation to committees which represent the interests of users of public transport; to rename Passenger Transport Authorities as Integrated Transport Authorities and to make further provision in relation to them; to make further provision in relation to charging for the use of roads; to amend Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004; to make provision in relation to the acquisition, disclosure and use of information relating to vehicles registered outside the United Kingdom; and for connected purposes.

10    Royal Assent,—The Deputy Speaker notified the House, in accordance with the Royal Assent Act 1967, That Her Majesty had signified her Royal Assent to the following Act, agreed upon by both Houses:

    Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

11    Defence in the world,—A Motion was made, and the Question being proposed, That this House has considered the matter of defence in the world—(Secretary Des Browne);

    And it being Six o'clock, the Motion lapsed without Question put.

12    Business of the House,—Ordered, That, at the sitting on Thursday 15th May, the Speaker shall put the Questions necessary to dispose of proceedings on the Motion in the name of Mr Edward Leigh relating to Public Accounts not later than three hours after their commencement; proceedings may continue after the moment of interruption; and Standing Order No. 41A (Deferred divisions) shall not apply.—(Liz Blackman.)

13    Draft Marine Bill (Joint Committee),—Resolved, That this House concurs with the Lords Message of 2nd April, that it is expedient that a Joint Committee of Lords and Commons be appointed to consider and report on any draft Marine Bill presented to both Houses by a Minister of the Crown.

    Ordered, That a Select Committee of eleven members be appointed to join with the Committee appointed by the Lords to consider the draft Marine Bill (Cm. 7351).

    That the Committee should report on the draft Bill by 22nd July 2008.

    That the Committee shall have power—

      (i) to send for persons, papers and records;

      (ii) to sit notwithstanding any adjournment of the House;

      (iii) to report from time to time;

      (iv) to appoint specialist advisers; and

      (v) to adjourn from place to place within the United Kingdom.
