Letter to the Secretary of State, Foreign
and Commonwealth Office from the Chairman of the Committee
The Committee has noted recent press reports
about a possible transfer of Ministerial responsibility for SIS
and GCHQ. If such a change were to be made, it would have important
consequences for the work of the FCO as a whole, and not just
for the two agencies. I and my colleagues would certainly expect
to be informed of any such change before it was agreed.
I would be grateful if you could confirm whether
such a transfer of responsibilities is being or has been considered.
