Summary

The Session began on 26th November 2003 and ended on 18th November 2004. The House sat Monday-Friday (except on those Fridays listed below) between, or on, the following dates (inclusive): 26th November 2003 (State Opening 26th November 2003)-18th December 2003; 5th January 2004-12th February 2004; 23rd February 2004-1st April 2004; 19th-30th April 2004; 4th-27th May 2004; 7th June 2004-22nd July 2004; 7th-16th September 2004; 11th October 2004-18th November 2004.

The House did not sit on the following Fridays: 28th November 2003; 5th and 12th December 2003; 9th, 16th and 23rd January 2004; 19th March 2004; 7th May 2004; 11th and 25th June 2004; 2nd and 9th July 2004; 22nd and 29th July 2004; and 5th and 12th November 2004.

The average sitting day lasted 7 hours and 44 minutes; and the average duration of sitting beyond the moment of interruption (10 p.m. Monday, 7p.m. on Tuesday-Thursday and 2.30 p.m. on Fridays) was 48 minutes.

Under Standing Order No. 10 and the Order of the House of 29th October 2002, on days on which the House sits there are sittings in Westminster Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays these sittings begin at half-past nine o'clock, are suspended from half-past eleven o'clock until two o'clock and may then continue for up to a further two and a half hours. On Thursdays sittings begin at half-past two o'clock and continue for up to three hours. Any Member of the House may take part in sittings in Westminster Hall; and the business is appointed by the Chairman of Ways and Means.
