RE: LIGHTING AT BOARS HEAD GOLF COURSE, ERIDGE ROAD, CROWBOROUGH

I refer to your letter dated 10 March 2003, concerning the above matter and I apologise for the delay in responding.

Planning permission WD/93/1932 was granted for the golf course which included the following condition relating to lighting:

Condition: The proposed means of illumination of the range and other parts of the site shall be so designed and installed to the approval of the District Planning Authority as to ensure that no neighbouring residential property nor highway safety shall be adversely affected by direct sources of light or glare, and such lighting arrangements as approved shall at all times be retained. Such lighting shall conform to the submitted competition report and with the additional fitting arrangement details date stamped 1 July 1994.

Reason: In the interests of and for the safety of persons and vehicles using the premises and/or adjoining road, and to protect the residential amenities and scenic character of the locality.

As you can see the condition imposed in 1993 was to protect residential amenities and highway safety. I enclose as requested, extracts of the Councils Local Plan Policy relative to light pollution. One extract is from the Wealden Local Plan (Adopted Dec 1998) and the other is from the First Deposit Draft (a draft replacement to the adopted Wealden Local Plan) Wealden Local Plan review—published in January 2003. I trust this is of interest to you.
