Memorandum by Tavistock Town Council (CEM
28)
My Council has noted the content of your Press
Circular of 7 November. We manage one closed and one large open
cemetery, plus a medieval churchyard used for burials since the
11th century.
My Members wish to emphasise that we have no
problems with the management and funding of these services, and
believe that ours may well be used as models for good practice.
Our one difficulty is with the current regulation concerning Crematoria
and the proximity to residential properties. This precludes our
installing such a facility in Tavistock, though it would be of
great benefit. Our residents instead have to travel 15 miles to
Plymouth City and use their expensive facility.
Perhaps the modern improvements in emissions
control might be reflected in a change in the current (and dated)
regulations?
