  I can confirm that the Institute is committed to producing the text for the above-mentioned handbook.

  It is the aim of the Institute to produce the principal text that will be on every manager's desk, comprising an essential reference covering all legal, technical, administrative and practical aspects of our sphere of work with an emphasis on best practice in order to promote excellence in service standards and delivery.

  The chapters will be drafted by a team of experienced and qualified professionals specifically selected by the Board of Directors for their knowledge of and expertise in the particular subjects allocated to them.

  A process of peer review will take place to ensure that each chapter is scrutinised not only by the editors, Dr Rugg and myself, but also by at least two other chapter authors. It is further proposed that the volume will be scrutinised by our National Education Officer to ensure total compatibility with the Institute's educational and training programmes and Diploma course.

  The text will conclude with discussion on the present and future management of our service with a focus on sustainability and care of the bereaved.

  The handbook will provide not only a comprehensive guide to the manager new to our service but also to the experienced manager who is looking for areas where improvements to service provision can be made.

  A major publisher of such works has registered interest in the handbook.
