RYHALL CEMETERY

  Historical/cultural significance lies in the fact that a number of families whose origins in the community stretch back well into the 19th century and whose members are buried here—and continue to be so. Ryhall is still a close knit rural community and the cemetery is an important part of the village. At any given time there will be someone tending a grave. Even old graves are visited weekly by family members.

  Condition of the Old Cemetery is fair to good. Some old graves are neglected because there is no family left to maintain them. Some headstones need attention, but again they are no-one's responsibility now.

  Burial space seems adequate at present. There are relatively few burials, mainly cremation nowadays. At present rate it should be enough for the next 30 years at least, probably longer.

  Rutland County Council in the opinion of our previous Burial Administrator, does a good job as far as funds permit and it is assumed that the cemeteries are economically viable given the enormous burial fees.
