THIRD SPECIAL REPORT

The Trade and Industry Committee has agreed to the following Special Report:

FURTHER GOVERNMENT OBSERVATIONS ON THE FOURTEENTH REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE (SESSION 1998-99) ON THE DRAFT ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS BILL (HC 862)

1. The Committee published its Fourteenth Report[1] of Session 1998-99 on 3 November 1999. The Government's memorandum providing its response to the recommendations on those parts of the Bill which were included in the Electronic Communications Bill was received on 17 January 2000 and published by us as our Second Special Report on Wednesday 19 January in time for the remaining stages of the Bill, originally scheduled for Thursday 20 January. In the event, the Bill was considered and read a Third time on Tuesday 25 January.

2. A memorandum from the Home Office providing the Government's response to the recommendations on those parts of the draft Bill now to be included within the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Bill was received on Thursday 20 January, and is printed as an Appendix.
