Select Committee on Science and Technology Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Letter to the Clerk of the Committee from Dr L Goldstone, Deputy Secretary, the Institution of Electrical Engineers

Thank you for your letter of 15 December 1998 addressed to Dr Williams, which has been passed to me for attention.

Since preparing our original submission last March, we have noted with satisfaction the increasing emphasis which the Government is placing on the importance of science, technology and engineering to the well-being of the UK. We are particularly pleased that Lord Sainsbury has been appointed Minister for Science at the DTI. Thus, we would perhaps have wished to reflect this change in paragraph 16 in our submission[28]. Other than that, we have nothing further to add.
