HOC 44/86
Protection of children: Explained the new procedures
for checking with local police forces the possible criminal background
of those who applied to work with children. The arrangements applied
to local authority paid staff and volunteers engaged in the care
of children, and others such as registered childminders and foster
parents caring for children boarded out with them.
HOC 45/86
Protection of children: Consolidated and superseded
existing guidance on the disclosure of convictions and related
information; gave effect for new arrangements for checks on those
with substantial opportunities for access to children.
Schedule 1: Groups to be vetted
Schedule 2: Groups in respect of whom ongoing
reporting of convictions should be carried out.

These arrangements stemmed from Section 47 of the Road Traffic
Act 1991.

Protection of children: Updated guidance on
checks in the voluntary sector contained in HOC 58/89. The main
change from previous arrangements was that checks would only be
made in respect of the most sensitive posts.

of FE Colleges and VI Form Colleges, Independent and Grant-Maintained
schools.

Protection of children: Replaced arrangements
introduced in July 1986 and revised in December 1988. Revised
guidance in earlier circulars on arrangements for vetting: employees
or volunteers directly engaged by statutory local bodies and self
governing (grant maintained) schools, independent schools and
further education establishments. (Includes arrangements in respect
of registered (private) children's homes and staff employed by
contractors).

of national voluntary organisations which are members of the Voluntary
Organisations Consultancy Service (VOCS). Revised and cancelled
HOC 117/92 and 58/89.

Protection of children: NHS Trustsfollowing
changes in structure and management of NHS, arrangements to enable
NHS employing bodies to continue to obtain police checks on those
who apply to work with children.

Protection of children: issued to local authorities
under S.7 of Local Authorities Social Services Act 1970arrangements
in respect of staff working in registered private children's homes
and small unregisterable children's homes.
