Local Consultation in Portsmouth and Southampton

  In the 1996 consultation, "Numbering: Options for the Future 2", OFTEL approached all local authorities, the County Council and Chambers of Commerce, in the Hampshire areas that were potentially affected by the various options.

  The consensus from this consultation was that Councils outside of the Portsmouth and Southampton boundaries expressed a desire not to be included in the change, as they did not want to be perceived as part of the urban connurbations.

  OFTEL offered to give local presentations; Eastleigh Borough Council was alone in discussing details of the proposals with OFTEL.
