KEY PROGRAMMES
Promoting wider and more effective learning of
the English language by:
the provision of high quality language training
to organisations and individuals (there are currently 5,533 students,
rising to 7,389 in 1999-2000); assisting the Ministry of Education
to improve English language teaching; and running an English language
resource centre for teachers and students of English.
Demonstrating that the UK is a committed partner
in tackling key economic and democratic reform agendas in Azerbaijan
by:
ensuring full Azerbaijani participation in
Know How Fund regional reform programmes and other relevant initiatives
(Chevening, the John Smith Fellowship Programme, the European
Series).
Promoting the UK's role as a leading provider
of educational opportunity by:
provision of an information service about
education and training in Britain; promotion of English language
and professional examinations; and organising a British Education
and Training show at the British week trade fair scheduled for
October 1999.
Raising awareness of the UK's creativity, cultural
diversity and recent achievements by:
developing a well targeted, though modest,
arts programme.
