Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 46

Letter from the Project Director, Royal Artillery Museums Ltd to the Clerk of the Committee

Following the recent visit of your Committee to the project here, I thought that I should write to you, in the interests of accuracy, to clarify a response I gave to a question in conversation with the Committee Chairman. He asked me "if anyone from the HLF had visited the project". I responded that of those currently involved only Dr Patrick Greene, a Trustee, had visited the site and this was in 1995. I have only been here for about a year so I checked back and found that Dr Caryl Hubbard, another Trustee, also visited the site with Dr Greene. However, we do not think she is now closely involved with deciding on this project.

I was correct in saying that the current HLF Case Officer has only made one visit to the project, and none during the formulation of our re-application nor during its assessment. The HLF Museums Assessor and their Financial Assessor also have not visited us, although the HLF project monitor is reasonably familiar with the site and the issues.

Our Chairman has received an encouraging letter from Mr Kaufman and on behalf of the project team may I thank you for arranging this timely visit.
