Letter to Mr Geoffrey Robinson MP from Mr Martin Fishman, Arthur Andersen

HOLLIS INDUSTRIES PLC—IN ADMINISTRATION ("HI")  

I refer to your two letters dated 26 June 1998 and 30 June 1998 and our subsequent discussions.

You have asked us to examine the HI records in our possession for the accounting period to 30 June 1990 and subsequent periods up to the date of our appointment as Administrators of HI on 11 December 1991 to ascertain whether any payments were made to you by HI.

We have examined the records, such as they are, and would make the following comments:

• We found no evidence that HI made any payment to you (of £200,000 or any other amount) during the accounting period to 30 June 1990 or between that date and 11 December 1991.

• We located in the HI records an invoice to HI from Pergamon AGB plc ("PAGB") dated 31 January 1991 in respect of management charges of £200,000 [Annex D]. Attached to this invoice were two handwritten notes relating to the invoice (all three sheets are attached) which included a reference to "£200,000 paid to G. Robinson (recharged by Pergamon AGB)" [Annex C]. It is possible that further information may exist in the records of PAGB.
