APPENDIX 4
Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards
from Mr Geoffrey Robinson MP
Thank you for your letter of 18 June about which we spoke yesterday.
I trust you received the Coopers & Lybrand annotated memo.1[19]
It might be helpful if I confirmed to you my offer to have my
personal accounts and bank statements independently audited.
Perhaps you would put this to the Committee.
Turning to TransTec, I felt I had explained the situation very
clearly to Mr Hastings (the registrar at the time) and as you
see from one of my manuscript notes, it was his idea that I should
de-register the directorship. Of course, I re-registered as soon
as I took the salary and the preponderant interest of the shareholding
was always registered. There was simply nothing for me to gain
from not registering the directorship other than trying to comply
as fully as possible with the code.
Taking AGB and Central & Sheerwood next, in addition to the
audit of my own accounts, I am prepared to approach the auditors
and ask them to go through their working papers to establish whether
or not in the years to which you refer any payment was made to
me. I will meet any costs involved in doing so as well.
I hope you and the Committee will find this helpful.
