ANNEX B

Further letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner from the Rt Hon Francis Maude MP

Further to my letter of 9th June,[8] regarding the failure of Geoffrey Robinson MP to register his interests in two Italian property companies, I am now able to provide you with copies of the relevant supporting documentation, copies of which are attached.[9]

The two companies are the 'Castelli Mucchio—Villa Robinson Geoffrey EC—SAS' (set up in 1992) and the 'Borgo Mucchio Di Sotto Sal' (set up in 1994).

As you will see from the documents (and as I pointed out in my original letter on this matter), Mr Robinson extended the activities of the Castelli Mucchio company in 1996, permitting the company to 'carry out all commercial, financial, real estate and building activities that are seen as necessary and useful to carry out the aims of this company, including taking an interest in and taking part in other companies having the same or similar aims and objectives to this one'.

It now becomes clear that the aims of the Borgo Mucchio company were also extended in a similar way. As from 1996, this company was to be able to 'furthermore be able to take an interest, including even share ownership, in other companies'.

It is clear from these documents that neither company is solely involved in the provision of a residential home for Mr Robinson. Both companies are able to engage in activities that are clearly and explicitly commercial.

In view of the fact that you have already had to conduct two investigations into Mr Robinson's affairs, and that yesterday I placed another two complaints before you, I am sure you will wish to conduct a thorough investigation into what these documents reveal.
