ATTORNEY-GENERAL

Antarctica

Mr. Corbyn : To ask the Attorney-General if he will list the records available in the Public Records Office relating to military activity in Antarctica ; and how many papers relating to Antarctica have been withheld for more than 30 years.

The Attorney-General : No list is maintained of records available in the Public Records Office relating specifically to Antarctica or military activity there. To compile such a list, or to enumerate all related papers withheld for more than 30 years could be done only at disproportionate expense.

TRANSPORT

Smoky Vehicles

Ms. Walley : To ask the Secretary of State for Transport further to his answer of 23 April, Official Report, column 417, whether he will publish and publicise the telephone numbers of the Department of Transport area departments dealing with complaints about smoky vehicles, subject to operator licensing ; what checks operators of allegedly smoky vehicles will be required to undertake in order to satisfy his Department that the vehicle is not smoky ; and what follow-up action his Department will take if an unsatisfactory reply is received.
